Passing on the “Clean Water of Shiga Highland” from the perspective of a school in the upper reaches of the river
From their experience last year winning a gold medal at a taste evaluation with rice harvested from a paddy near the school, the children turned their attention toward “water.” And they began to learn to think about what “clean water” is. As they visited Shinshu University’s COI, tested the water quality around the school, tested the water quality near the source in Shiga Highland, and answered that question, their desire to “protect and pass down this water” only grew. Wanting to give some thought to what they could do toward that end, the children connected with administrators at facilities in Nara Prefecture and Iida City, which gave them more food for thought.
